What Does Tequila Taste Like When You Can't Smell?

What Does Tequila Taste Like When You Can't Smell?

Can you smell what I'm cooking? Did you know that 80% of what we perceive as taste is actually smell? 80%? That is crazy! Do you want to see if it's true? Okay, let's do it. We're going to take this tequila that has a lot of "flavor", Clase Azul. Try it first with nothing on our nose, and then we'll try it again. Okay. All right. So let's smell it. See what you smell. I get vanilla or butterscotch. Yeah. Very sweet. Sugary. So now let's taste it. And you taste the same flavors. Yeah. A lot of vanilla butterscotch caramel. Now let's try it with no sense of smell.Okay.Honestly, you can't taste hardly anything when you do it that way. That tastes nothing. It tastes like nothing. You just get an aftertaste of alcohol. Yeah. Wow. Try it at home.

Entremanos Blanco Tequila Review

Entremanos Blanco Tequila Review

Breaking news! New tequila brand you need to know: It is Entre Manos!Additive-free, Blanco only. All natural yeast, very ripe, mature agave. It's about $70 or so. See the bio for how to purchase this. It literally just showed up in the US like a couple of weeks ago. Yeah. They also created a nonprofit to support women in the tequila industry, which is awesome! And we love their packaging.Oh, it is so cool. It looks so great on the bar with the rope and just the style of the recycled glass, really, really beautiful packaging. Let's say, let's give it a shot here. All right, cheers!Oh, wow!Tasty! It goes down very easily. Very easily. No burn, super smooth. Very agave forward, but it's different. It's got a different agave character than some of the other kind of high-end Blancos that we've had, not nearly the black pepper.Very good! I think I would give it like an 8, 8.5. It's good!Yeah! 8.5 for me as well. I think, it's a really nice choice.

Tequila Bottle Neckers - Feat. Authentico

You might be in a liquor store of some kind and see these hang tags, or sometimes they're called neckers, on bottles. And I always find it interesting, Maddie, what people choose to put on them. Right?   View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer)   So this is from Patron, and their big message is that this is keto friendly, but all tequila is gluten-free. So it's not just that brand at all. What do you got there? Yeah. This one is Solana. It shows the awards that they've won and then also has some recipes on the back. I really like this one from our friends at Authentico, Maddie. And I actually worked with this brand a little bit when they were being launched. Every one of their expressions have a hang tag from a famous Mexican street artist, Alberto Lozano. And then it's all a portrait of the Goddess Mayahuel. Yep! But check out how cool it is. They're each subtly different. Yep. This one is during the day because that's when they say it would be really good to drink it. This one is at dusk, dawn. And then this one is nighttime. Yeah. The animals are different, too. It's the animals that are actually out in Mexico during those times of day, which is really cool. And then inside the hang tag, you've got information about the artist, which is great, about the tequila itself, about the process. And then on the back, you've got a QR code that you can shoot that goes to a video about the brand story. So I just kind of figure, if you're going to go into the trouble of making one of these, right? And then putting it on the bottles, provide as much information as possible. Yeah. And then ideally, something that's really kind of cool and talkable, noteworthy like this. Yeah, I agree. Bravo to Authentico.

Best Job Ever? Professional Tequila Tasters!

Best Job Ever? Professional Tequila Tasters!

This is maybe the best tequila job ever. You might not know this, but tequila producers almost always blend their batches, right? They mix production runs and barrels together to keep color and flavor consistent over time. But how do they actually do that? Like you've got a tequila brand that needs to release 20,000 bottles of reposado drawn from more than 100 individual barrels.   View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) How do you make sure that this batch tastes like the last batch when the tequila was made from different fields of agave and at different times of the year? Well, at Siete Leguas, they have an in-house tasting panel that does this job every day. Seven people meet in the morning and taste every single batch of tequila to make sure that the profile stays consistent. The tasting panel is drawn from different departments in the company, people who have exceptional sense, memories, of course. And this part blew me away when I heard about it. They make these decisions 70% based on aroma and just 30% on flavor. So why is this bottle of Siete Leguas similar in color, flavor, et cetera, to the one I bought last time?Because of the hard work every day of seven very lucky people. Think you could do that job? Let me know in the comments.

6 Mistakes About Additive Free Tequila

6 Mistakes About Additive Free Tequila

Here are 6 things people get wrong about additives in tequila. First, only brands are confirmed additive-free by Tequila Matchmaker, not specific expressions, like Blanco, Reposado, and so forth.   View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer)   Second, if a brand isn't on the Tequila Matchmaker list, it does not mean that that has additives. There's like 2,000+ tequila brands. The staff at Tequila Matchmaker can't possibly investigate every brand, and some brands don't want to be part of the program. And of course, many brands, of course, do have additives. Third, there is no foolproof way to test for additives unless you have a liquid chromatography setup lab. Yes, you can definitely train yourself to identify signature characteristics of additives, but it's hard to say for absolute certainty without a lab test. Fourth, there is nothing about additives required to be on any tequila label, which is unfortunate. Fifth, flavored tequilas cannot be confirmed as additive-free because the fruits used to make the flavors are, of course, a type of additive. And sixth, additive-free doesn't mean high quality. There are high-quality tequilas with additives and there are low-quality tequilas without additives. Additive-free is a production style and a commitment to authenticity, but by itself, it isn't a quality designation. Hope that clears some stuff up.

Inside Siete Leguas Tequila Ovens

Inside Siete Leguas Tequila Ovens

Look at these beautiful uncooked agaves. What do they look like after cooking? Well, let's find out as they're opening oven #3 at Siete Leguas. Look at that steam! These have been cooked for a couple of days at 225 degrees. It's like making a brisket, but with agave. They got to cool down for another 12-24 hours before the juice can be extracted. These ovens are really large. You can't tell because of the steam, but here's Maddie in front of a nearly empty one, so you can see just how big they are. If you ever get a chance to visit Siete Leguas, you should absolutely do it.   View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer)
