Coconut Spritz Tequila Cocktail
Are you nuts? Coconut chunks in your tequila? It's the coconut spritz. The coconut spritz. First, we're going to add some chunks of coconut to this ice. We're going to put in a little bit of coconut water. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) Then we're going to add about an ounce and a half or so of this Inspiro Blanco, one of our favorite Blancos. Very soft, very delicious. And then...Top with some Topo Chico.Topo Chico. Alright. Then we should put a little more tequila in there just for vibes. It was a light pour. Yep, alright, let's try it. Give it a stir. Ready? Yep. There we go, get in there. Alright.Ooh! It's really light. You don't get the coconut till the end. You notice that? It needs to stir a little bit, but it's like kind of a regular, like, tequila soda. And then it's like, ooh, like a coconut ranch water. It's a ranch water with coconut instead of lime. It's really good. I like it. Easy to make too.I mean, you could... The coconut chunks are cool just visually, but I think you could just go [00:01:00] without the chunks and just go coconut water and place a lime and just go more of a tropical ranch water. And the flavor's not overwhelming either of coconut, I don't think. So if you're not like a huge coconut fan, still give it a try.And I am a huge coconut fan, so I'm not going to do a little bit more of this right here. And more chunks.Yeah, now we're talking. Give it a shot. Let us know what you think.
Learn moreDon Fulano 20 Anniversary Tequila Review
Celebrating 20 years of Don Fulano. Worth the wait? Don Fulano 20th Anniversary Añejo. This is a 3-year añejo in French oak, and then it's finished three months or so in a variety of sherry casks. Additive-free of course. Let's give it a shot. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) All righty.Oh, I like the nose a bit. The balance of that's so nice, right? I mean it's...It's sweet, but not overwhelming. Some barrel as well, some wood but not like really in your face like hit you with a board. It's really, these guys are so good at blending. Lovely. Mmm. If you are a whiskey, bourbon, scotch drinker, I think you should seek this out because you are going to love it!It's really, really in that style of tequila. It's 44%, I think we said as well. Yeah. And it gives off some a little bit of a higher-proof vibe. It definitely has some body to adits. I really like I think it's really really nice. It's really well made. Geez. [00:01:00] Yeah. I am... like it... For me, it's a teeny bit hot for an añejo, but I mean, that makes sense because it's higher ABV. Yeah. But no, I liked it.I'm going to give it a 7.Nice. I like it a lot. I think you should try to buy this if your budget permits. Again, they're only going to make it never as a single release. I go 9 for the Don Fulano 20. Nice job.
Learn moreValor Blanco Tequila Review
Should you buy this new high-end Blanco from a female-owned brand? Valor Blanco!Valor Blanco made at 1599 in the Valley. Same folks that make Atanasio. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) Additive-free. They're only making Blancos for now, which is cool. 42% ABV, so a little higher. $120 or so. You can check it out link in my bio. And tons and tons of give-backs to the community really big focus on sustainability, love how they're running their company. So nice job, Valor. Awesome. Oh, that is not my favorite smell. That's too cheesy for you, isn't it?It's very cheesy. Yeah, smells like a charcuterie board. Ooh, that's really easy drinking. Like, really easy.Yeah, for 42%, that is a scary, easy drink in tequila. I think they've got to be running this through some oxygenation because that is smooth. A little minty on the end, which I don't dislike. It definitely has some spearmint character, a little vegetal character. Not a ton of pepper, for sure, but...Yeah.That is nice.So I really like this, the taste of this. I think they're on to something here, and I love how they're running their business, as I said. So, nice job by Valor. I give this one an 8. Okay. I'm going to give it a 7 solely because I can't quite get over the smell, but the taste is really nice. There you go. Well, I know what you can do next time. There you go. Love it. Valor 8 and 7.
Learn moreXoloitzcuintle Reposado Review
Is this tequila hard to say but easy to drink? Xoloitzcuintle. Xoloitzcuintle reposado. It's a breed of a Mexican hairless dog. You know that movie Coco? Yeah, yeah. The dog in that movie, that's this kind of a breed. All of their expressions are in 1 liter. Stick, this is 46% ABV. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) So, you're getting high strength and a liter for $75. So, not super strong. No. Get a little, a little raw agave on it for sure. Uh huh. And then a little bit of like a baking spice cinnamon kind of a thing. Yeah, I agree. Hmm. Nice. You can taste the 46% for sure. Yeah, a little hot. A little hot, but not overpowering.No. And this is not a super caramelly butterscotchy style. This is very agave forward, which I like quite a bit. This is my style of reposado. I don't love the finish, though. Yeah, I don't either. Certainly, not my favorite reposado. It's a little hot, which I understand because it's a little bit higher in alcohol.Very much recommend this, especially given that you get a liter for high-end cocktails. I think it'd be a really good choice for a ranch water and maybe even for a Paloma with a little bit more kick to it. I'm going to give it an 8. Okay. I'm going to give it a 6.5, like maybe could be a 7. I would definitely put it in a margarita, probably wouldn't sip it on its own.
Learn more3 Types of Tahona Tequila
How do they get the juice out of the agave? Well, once the heart or piña of the agave plant is cooked, the sugary juice is pressed out. Now, the most traditional method is with a tahona, which is a volcanic stone wheel. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) Here at the Siete Leguas distillery, they still use a mule team to turn their tahonas. They're the only distillery to still use mules.Don't worry. They take very, very good care of these mules. A slightly more modern tahona is found here at the Volcan de Mitiada distillery, where the mules are replaced with an engine that turns the wheel. And then the most modern tahona is at El Pandillo, where this unique approach, nicknamed Felipe-stein, almost looks like something you would see on a road crew. Now, all of these tahonas definitely get the job done and many people prefer the more gravely nature of tequilas, more mineral flavors that come through when using a tahona. What about you?
Learn moreIs Don Julio or Casamigos Tequila Better?
Casamigos versus Don Julio, who you got? I don't know, let's see. These are both reposados. These brands are both owned by Diageo. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) We don't know which is which here. Want to start on that outside one? Yeah. Okay. It's a little lighter than the inside one. Yeah, it is. That's fairly sweet. Uh huh. I mean...It's not, like the worst but its definitely got candy bubblegum kind of look to it. Yeah. It's really thick in the mouth. Yeah, it is. It's sweet but it's not... it's not horrible. No, it's a little perfumey, more so, than sweet. Yeah, it's very flowery. Yeah. Inside one. Okay. Oh. Wow! That is so different. Yeah, this is like pancake. That's amazing. Yeah.Wow. Huh. That is sugary and vanilla-ey for sure. Yeah. Oh wow, I like get vanilla on my breath after that. Oh. For me, no question. It's the outside one. No, I agree. I mean like by a mile. Well, and I like sweet, but this is just a fake sweet. Don't love either of these, but this one is definitely, significantly better... I agree ...than this one.Which is this one? Don Julio. Don Julio Reposado vanquishes Casamigos. There you go, folks. You heard it here first.
Learn moreShould You Put Ice in Your Tequila?
Should you put ice in your tequila? I don't know. Maybe? So, a lot of people who come to tequila from bourbon or whiskey are like, well yeah, you're supposed to put ice in there. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) That's often because bourbons and whiskeys are distilled at a higher proof, and so when you put the ice in there, that ice dissolves and kind of waters it down and makes it more palatable. Most tequilas are actually made at 80 proof, 40% ABV. So the water's added in the bottle, but not always. We're going to do a little experiment here. This is El Tesoro Paradiso Extra Añejo. This is at 40% ABV. This is Xoloitzquintle, which is 46%. So for each of these, we've got one that's just neat. And then one that we've got a slowly dissolving ice cube in. Yeah, start with the neat. So this is 40%, so it's 40% with water now. So this is going to be down to the 30s. Changes it quite a bit, doesn't it? Yeah, it does. Yeah. Switch. Okay. This is good. I haven't had the extra añejo up there. That's good.Yeah. It is good. I think I like it better without the ice cube. Look at you. Look at you after all this time. "I don't want any water in my tequila." I just want tequila... I've never been more proud. But yeah, I kind of agree. Like, it's definitely easier to drink with the ice than the water. But it definitely mutes the flavors and the character to the degree I'm like, Eh, I don't know. There's no right answer. In most cases, you don't need to put ice in your tequila because it wasn't intended for you to put ice in your tequila. Also, two really good choices here.
Learn moreTequila + Rose = Inspiro Rosa Reposado!
Is this the best rosa tequila in the world? Inspiro Rosa Reposado. They actually aged this tequila, 2, 3, 4 months, something like that, in French rosé wine barrels. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) Most of the brands out there making sort of the pink tequila are aging it in wine barrels. This is actually in rosé barrels. This is like 77, something like that.Okay! All female owned brand, female master distiller as well. I like the smell on that. You went straight to taste it. Yeah. It smells really good. It's very distinct, too. You don't smell tequilas like this because it's such a unique aging process and barreling process. It's really subtle and nice. It doesn't smell like incense.Yeah, it's a really beautiful blend of the rosé and the tequila, which is like two of my favorite drinks. So I...This is right up your alley, yeah. I think you're the target audience for this tequila. Very approachable combination of flavors. Just a little kiss of sweetness. Actually less sweet than I would have thought.I agree. Yeah. Yeah. To me, it's a little bit one dimensional.Oh, I really like it. It got like a tiny bit of maybe pepperyness in it, which I don't always love, but I think this is really tasty. Yep! Additive-free too. I think I'm going to go 7. I like it. Okay! And I'm going to go 8. Hey, look at you go!Could even be like maybe an 8.5. 8.5! Something like that for Maddie. Inspiro Rosa Reposado.
Learn moreVolcan Blanco Tequila Review
Should you buy this new high-end blanco from Louis Vuitton? This is the Volcan de mi Tierra. This is from the Valley in Tequila. This is a Mexican proof 38% bottle that they gave me in a recent visit, NOM 1523. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) Yeah, partnership with Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy. Let's give this a shot. These guys do an interesting product, a lot of blending. Some of this is tahona, some of this is roller mill, they're just really an interesting distilling mixture of yeast as well, they're trying to come up with a new formula, let's see. All right. Ooh, that's nice. It's got a nice note. Yeah. A little spearminty. A tiny bit, yeah. Yeah, I like this a lot. Ooh. Gravelly.Minty, again. That's really smooth. Yeah. I like that. Very, very nice on the finish. Wow. Yeah. This is solid. You can go to my bio for a link to find this. The Blanco 55, 60, something like that I would say. I'm a fan. I like this, especially for a blanco. Mm hmm. I think it's really good. It goes down easy and yeah, I like the little minty. The minty eucalyptus character is very noticeable here. I personally prefer a little more black pepper than what this exhibits, but this is a good offering for sure. Nice job by our friends at Volcan. I'm going to go 8. All right. I'm going to go 8, too, actually. Very good. Nice. Keep on the lookout for this one, the Volcan de mi Tierra.
