4 Tequila Picks for the Total Solar Eclipse

So this happens once every, like five centuries or something. It is...The total solar eclipse. Happening today! So it's a big, big, big, big deal. And where we live is like right in the path of it. So we've got to pick out some very, very special tequilas. Yes, I'm very excited. It's going to be amazing. Let's do it.We're going to each pick out two that we're going to bring to the big eclipse party. Here we go. So first, I'm going to go with the Espanita Añejo. I feel like the label is very eclipse-like. And then, second, I'm going to do the Insólito Extra Añejo.Just came out. Yeah, and it's.. Brand new. Delicious. All right, for my two, I'm going to go a couple of rarities, couple of pricey ones, a little older. I'm going to go with the Rodeo De Las Aguas Extra Añejo 5 Years. That is delicious. And I think this is maybe still the highest-rated one we've ever actually had on the show. Yeah. The Tears of Llorona Extra Añejo, those will be my two picks for the eclipse. It's going to be amazing. Can't wait!

Keep Buying Additive Free Tequila! (It's Working!)

Here's the truth. Over the past three months, sales for Don Julio were down 14%, Casamigos down 9%, Gran Coramino down 23%. Meanwhile, additive-free tequila sales were up 46%, which is nearly nine times more than the tequila category as a whole. There is a craft beer like shift in the market happening with smart consumers like you trading super sweet grocery store tequilas for better made additive-free alternatives. Now, through political, legal, and even police pressure, "Big Tequila" is trying to shut down the additive-free movement. Just say no to their pressure tactics. Keep buying additive-free tequila.

Don't Sip Tequila Out of a Shot Glass

Stop sipping tequila out of a shot glass. -I mean, if you're doing shots, yeah, use a shot glass. Maybe something like our agave one. - Those are super cute. You can buy those in our store. But if you're sipping fine tequila, shot glass is not really the way to go.-Yeah. The sides are too straight and the fill line is too tall, so you can't really collect the aromas.- And the opening is pretty small too, right? So you can't really like schnoz it up, which is what you're supposed to do. So if you're going to sip an excellent tequila, the better way to do it is with an actual tequila sipping glass or any sort of spirits glass. These are other ones that we sell in our online store. You've got the sides that kind of funnel the aromas up. You've got a wide enough opening and it's big enough, but you've got a pretty low fill line, so the aromas kind of collect on top there. So, this is a great glass. This will work. That's amazing. This will also work.- Jay has a lot of sipping glasses.- One's a stem will work. These are the classic ones. Those will work as well. So any of those will be great. But look, if you're drinking good tequila, stop drinking out of a shot glass! -If you have any questions, meet us in the comments.

American vs. French Oak in Tequila

Is your tequila aged in American Oak or French Oak? - Historically, most tequila brands have been aged in American Oak because tequila producers can get those barrels pretty inexpensively from American whiskey producers.- And American Oak gives tequila, like this TC Craft, more of a caramel vanilla flavor, and sometimes even like a coconut-y flavor, and that's something that I personally really like.- She's all about it. Now, increasingly, some tequila brands are starting to age their tequilas in French oak, like this Cierto. French Oak and American Oak are really quite a bit different. The French oak usually has a little bit less aroma, not quite as strong of a nose. And the base notes, it's just like a little bit more tannic. I would say it's more in the fruit character, more like a stewed strawberry is like the base, as opposed to vanilla. Me, personally, I love French oak tequilas.- Some tequila brands will put the type of oak that they use on the bottle, but a lot don't. You can use the Tequila Matchmaker app and it will tell you which kind of oak they use.- Find out which one you prefer. Let us know in the comments.

At long last, our nightmare is over. We're at the finals of March Sadness the bad tequila playoffs.   View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer) Thank goodness. Casamigos versus Hornitos. It really tastes like grass to me. Oh, interesting. That's kind of nightmare fuel. Okay. I mean, if you're looking to make like a green smoothie, maybe you could pour this in with that. Yeah. All right. No, I don't like that. Wow! That's a bad nose.Well, I can say they're both not very good. No, this one's definitely sweeter. Yes. I like the nose of the first one better. Mm-Hmm. This nose is not good. Yeah. This one finishes sweet.Yep. Very fakey sweet. Mm-Hmm.But the other one, the flavor itself is, it's... It just super disjointed. It's not harmonious at all.I kind of think this one's better. I agree. Like the other one, I don't even think I could put in a margarita. Like it's just like... Look at you. I know. It's just not very good. All right. The first one is the worst. Which is it? What? I got to know. I got to know. Wow! I can't believe it. Like when we started March Sadness, I thought Hornitos would maybe be the best one.Yeah. And it turns out, at least according to us in our playoffs, it was the least good. Yeah. Of all the tequilas. So that's it. Like doing it blind makes a big difference. Quick note, we don't necessarily recommend any of these tequilas, but we recommend this one the least. And we learned that in March Sadness.

Which of these do we dislike more?   View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jay Baer (@tequilajaybaer)   Well, all of them, but some more than others. Yeah. This is the semi-finals of March Sadness, the bad tequila playoffs. In semi-final #1, a big matchup of popular tequilas. We've got Casamigos and Jose Cuervo. It's alcohol. It's just booze. This could be like a thick vodka. Sweet. Birthday cake. It is birthday cake. That's a good call. No, bro. That's a hard pass. That's worse. Yeah, it's less tequila tasting than the first one. And the first one tastes more like vodka, but this is worse. Whatever this is, that's the worst one. This is blind. We're not making this up. We're not trying to make a point here or doing this for like, like, shares, views. Casamigos is worse than Jose Cuervo Tradicional . It moves on to the finals. We've got the 818 versus the Hornitos. You're so excited to work here. Yeah, this is awesome. That's just weird. It's pretty sweet. It finishes really sweet. Okay. That smells like perfume. Oh! Because it's pepper. Yep. Earth. Yep. This is tricky. I think this is better. It's pretty freaking close. No, I mean, the other one's just like sweet. Mm-Hmm. The candy. The candy juice. Well, I would be less likely to drink this one. I think this is the worst one. In a bit of an upset, Hornitos, worse than 818, mostly according to Maddie. So Hornitos is going to the finals against Casamigos. Tune in for the finals of March Sadness.

What Tequila to Buy in New Orleans

Going to get four bottles. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IbFdgJyVoAA First, all time classic, Lalo Blanco. Can't go wrong with that. Check this out. Ocho 2017 Blanco Los Nopales. Haven't seen a 2017 Ocho on the shelf in a long time. This is a must get. The Paladar Reposado. Such an interesting brand. Some different production methods as well. If you haven't tried Paladar yet, you absolutely should. That's the Calle 23 Añejo from Sophie Decobecq. What a great brand. Always worth a purchase and a good price as well here at Martin.
